Virtuaalitodellisuus- ja lisätyn todellisuuden laseissa on käynnissä kova tekninen kehitys. Englantilainen Plessey Semiconductors kertoi Las Vegasin CES-messuilla kehittävänsä yhdessä amerikkalaisen Nanoco Technologiesin kanssa tekniikkaa, jolla mikronäytöistä saadaan merkittävästi nykyistä tarkempia.

Nanoco on kehittänyt tekniikan, jolla voidaan toteutettua kvanttipistenanopartikkeleja, joissa ei käytetä kadmiumia. Vegasissa julkistetun sopimuksen mukaan Plessey aikoo integroida tällaiset kvanttipistekalvot tiettyihin osiin sinisiä ledikiekkojaan, joilla voidaan toteuttaa punainen ja vihreä väri näyttöön.

Keskeistä projektissa on tuotettujen pikselien koon pieneneminen. Tällä hetkellä mikroledinäytön pikselin halkaisija on noin 30 mikronia. Nanocon nanopartikkeleilla pikselin koko kutistuu 4 mikroniin eli perät 87 prosenttia nykyistä pienemmäksi.

Tällä hetkellä ledimikronäytöissä värimuunnos tehdään lisäämällä fosforia siniseen lediin. Koska pienin fosforipartikkeli on halkaisijaltaan noin 30 mikronia, värimuunnoksen tehokkuus kärsii tätä pienemmissä pikseleissä. Nanocon CFQD-tekniikka (cadmium free quantum dot) korjaa tämän puutteen.

Mikroledeillä voidaan toteuttaa merkittävästi OLED-paneeleja pienempiä mikronäyttöjä. Plesseyn mukaan mikroledeillä voidaan tehdä resoluutioltaan 10-kertainen, kontrastiltaan 100-kertainen ja kirkkaudeltaan 1000-kertainen. Lisäksi mikroledinäyttö kuluttaa tehoa vain puolet OLEDin lukemista.


IoT-laitteiden tietoturva on retuperällä

Viime syksynä Mirai-haittaohjelma valloitti tuhansia ja tuhansia valvontakameroita palvelunestohyökkäyksiä varten. Barr Groupin tuore kyselytutkimus osoittaa, että sulautettujen laitteiden suunnittelijat eivät vieläkään suhtaudu riittävän vakavasti laitteiden tietoturvaan.
